What's Up With Poetry?

Am I the only one noticing that poetry is heading to a dead end very fast without any breaks? Am I the only one that is tired of men talking about how big their members are, or how some woman hates men? Am I the only one tired of hearing about how hard it is to be black (I am black, I already know)? What about the people that use all kind of big words to make the poem sound deep, but in actuality it doesn't even make sense?

I know that there is freedom of speech and everyone sees everything differently, but why is it that all the poetry is sounding the same? What happened to the poetry that inspired action, thought or change? It was not too long ago when I could go to a poetry event and feel better afterwards. Now, I just feel like I have wasted my time. Am I the only one that notices this? Am I crazy?

I love poetry, I love poetry, I love poetry, but some people are completely destroying the art form and it is killing me. I need poetry, I need poetry, I need poetry, but now poetry is like black women in music videos, exploited. So my true poets out there, please take poetry back, please take poetry back, please take poetry back. It is one of the last true art forms we have left.

I am so disappointed that I dont feel the joy I used to feel when I went to open mics. So I have decided to give it a break...
